Currently, psychological tests and research are gaining increasing popularity. They are used in various fields of life – for diagnosis, identifying professional predispositions, or examining specific characteristics of the subjects.
In Poland, only licensed psychologists have legal access to psychological tests. The Psychological Tests Laboratory of the Polish Psychological Association is the main unit in the country that deals with the sale of psychological tests, and the purchasing rules are strictly defined.
In addition to the official channels, there are private institutions in Poland that provide psychological research services, both offline and online. Due to the current economic situation in the country, the war in Ukraine, and the COVID-19 pandemic, an increasing number of Poles are seeking psychological help, with up to 1.6 million Poles using psychological services in 2022¹, and often deciding to undergo psychological tests, which incur additional costs. The prices of psychological tests start at several hundred zlotys per test. High prices of psychological tests are not unique to Poland. For example, Australia is another country where psychological tests are extremely expensive. The cost of purchasing a single test is very high, with the assessment of a child’s IQ at the time of writing costing 2745 USD, in addition to the cost of conducting and evaluating the results².
From a global perspective, the market for psychological research is constantly developing. According to Tomas Chamorro-Premuzic, a professor of psychology and author of the book “I, Human,” who estimated the value of the largest personality research firms, the personality research industry is worth about $2 billion³.
